1. Avoid trends.

2. To get bigger, not smaller.

Often, people are conservative with the size of their tattoo, especially if it's the first. Usually go for less to consider the bigger picture. This is quite natural, because you want to play it safe and go for the big one. But what usually happens is that many people regret that after they went so low and it was not their design to be bigger!

So, considering the size of the tattoo, you stop when the natural instincts kick in a more compact design, and to consider going a step higher. Sit with a larger design for a couple of days, and you've probably come to the conclusion that bigger is better.
